Recommended Packing List from Medicine Mountain
Weekend Camp outs
This is a suggested list of equipment for a "typical" weekend camp out. Use common sense along with this list; Colorado weather changes quickly. Snow and sub-freezing temperatures are always possible, and most of our camping is in the mountains. Always bring one complete change of EVERYTHING, and several pairs of socks. Then add gear for rain/snow, cold, sleeping, and eating. You DON'T need expensive equipment; much can be homemade or improvised. Ask the uniformed leaders for ideas.
For all Camp outs
- Scout Uniform (worn whenever we leave on outings)
- Boy Scout Handbook
- Hiking boots in summer
- 3 pairs socks (wool or wool blend)
- 2 pairs of pants
- T-shirts
- 2 underwear
- 2 long-sleeved shirts
- Sunglasses (snowblindness & headaches can be a problem)
- Rain jacket OR poncho
- Pack & frame OR duffel bag
- Small bags for ALL gear in pack (homemade nylon, cloth, ziplocks, etc.)
- 2-3 plastic trash bags
- Tent (four season if possible)
- Sleeping bag (in winter rated 10 degrees or colder, or bring extra liner or blanket)
- Sleeping bag liner (polar fleece or flannel; homemade)
- Waterproof stuff sack for sleeping bag
- Foam sleeping pad (needed to keep cold from coming from the ground through the sleeping bag)
- Waterproof ground cloth (heavy plastic)

- Winter coat
- 3 mittens OR gloves in winter(one pair will get wet, so two or three will keep you dry) mittens are warmer than gloves
